Understanding How Your City Government Works
Provide education programs on government and political process to residents and businesses in matters of public finance, planning, zoning, infrastructure, code enforcement, and community and economic development.
Provide educational programs to residents about the history of their community and the significance of its culture and architecture; assist with identifying and designating buildings, sites, districts, objects and structures within the community which are of historic or architectural value, and encourage and help to implement the preservation and rehabilitation of historic properties through research, procurement, purchase, rehabilitation, resale, release, or other means of disposition.
Community and Economic Development
Promote, encourage, develop and expand residential and commercial activities in the community, engaging in the rehabilitation, restoration and construction of buildings and structures, and assist with other development activities that may otherwise be required to enhance and encourage economic growth, job creation and community livability.
Project Development and Management
Assist in the development of projects, undertakings, studies and other activities in cooperation and coordination with individuals, neighborhood organizations, community groups, and governmental entities, and with other historical, educational, cultural, civic and philanthropic organizations.
Help to develop strong leaders and networks among internal and external entities in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
Solicit and accept endowments, grants, contributions, and donations of money, real property or other property or assets for projects that will improve the quality of life for residents of the community.
Hold and facilitate meetings and other activities for the instruction, education and the provision of information to the public.
Work with communities to educate their public officials about the challenges and goals of their community. Teach people how to change policies and reform systems in ways that can yield positive returns for their neighborhood over the long term.
